The Table

As-salamu alaykum –  peace be upon you in Arabic. Que Dios te bendiga –  God bless you in Spanish . Bienvenue, mon ami – welcome, my friend in French. These phrases are evidence of lighthearted kindness, on a global scale.

This is important to note, because ignorance has a mic and camera. Within my lifetime, I have heard awful things like, they don’t value life like we do, they’re the rudest snobs on earth, they love to be dirty and ignorant.

First off, America’s wealthy, spoiled and privileged are the rudest snobs on earth. Secondly, Americans are willing to keep their guns despite the fact that we are #1 in the world on firearm mortality. So much for valuing life. Dirty and ignorant? Can we say, Honey Boo Boo ?

Whenever you point your finger, you point three fingers back at yourself. I was honored to make friends with hijab-wearing (head scarf) Muslim women. They are so funny, strong, sweet and smart. And they are humanly flawed. No one is beyond reproach.

I was the only Christian in a room full of Muslims and I was received warmly, hugs and all. Any woman in the world could have entered the circle and felt completely welcomed.

The human heart transcends all races, cultures and ideals. Some things are just universal. Everyone mourns death, worries about the future and wants a better life for their children.

Diversity is man’s greatest gift. A world where everyone is the same is boring and hellish. When everyone figures that out, we can all sit at the ‘global table’ and partake in some strange and awesome chow!
